The following is a Source upon which the Author fixes Attention within the Wisdom Tradition here pursued, the whole of which is drawn from the New American Standard Translation. Some time is requisite to fill up the sum of these selections, having pruned off what seems to carry little import for the Work of BeingQuest in this regard, but which the careful reader may find useful in orienting their contemplation to what passes here as the Author's embraced Association of Importance. Perhaps this effort, though lengthy, shall serve the interests of some who would contemplate the Path which the Author of BeingQuest has held as supremely important; though there is left out of these selections other worthy matters for contemplation which could well be considered but which may only tend to clutter up these pages with periphery concerns or meditations. Here is the Voice calling out in the Marketplace. May it be well considered and acceptable to the Seeker and Lover of Wisdom, well provided for in our Tradition. Chapter and verse are indicated. Patience pours out the Rest, as day to day speaks Knowledge and the Deep calls unto the deep, as the sound of mighty waters. Is not Truth but Prophesy?

ECCLESIASTES (this book seems compelling for the many perspectives which, for the quasi-favored of the Holy among us, proves empty to the 'secret' desire of idiot men, confounded by Wisdom; which book is little read and never quoted by Institutionalized Christianity, the reasons for which may well be evident to those who read these excerpts and whose better understanding recognizes the folly of self-righteousness; which at bottom appears as nothing more than the self-confidence of an Idolatrous mind, such as tyrants and dolts are)
1.17 ...I set my mind to know wisdom and to know madness and folly; and I realized that this also is a striving after the wind 2.13 ...And I saw that wisdom excels folly as light excels darkness. The wise man's eyes are in his head; but the fool walks in darkness. And yet I know that one fate befalls them both [delusion?] .16 ...There is no lasting remembrance of the wise man as with the fool, in as much as in the coming days [Revelation of the Truth] all will be forgotten .24 ...There is nothing better for a man than to eat and drink and tell himself [sublimation?] that his labor is good. This also I have seen, that it is from the hand of God 3.11 ...He has made everything appropriate in its time. He has set eternity in their hearts, without which man will not find out the work [Life] which God has done from the beginning, even to the end .14 ...I know that everything God does [Life] will last forever; there is nothing to add to it and there is nothing to take from it, for God has so worked than men should fear Him .15 ...That which IS has been already, and that which will BE has already been, for God seeks that which has passed by [Eternal?] .18 ...I have said to myself concerning the sons of men, "God has surely tested them in order for them to see that they are but beasts" .19 ...For the fate of the sons of men and the fate of the beasts is the same. As the one dies, so dies the other; indeed, they all have the same breath [soul?] and there is no advantage for man over beast, for all is vanity .20 ...All go to the same place [oblivion?]. All come from the dust and all return to the dust 4.4 ...And I have seen that every labor and every skill [employment?] which is done is the result of rivalry between a man and his neighbor .6 ...One hand full of rest [withdrawal?] is better than two fists full of labor and striving after the wind .13 ...A poor and unwise lad is better than an old and foolish king who no longer knows how to receive instruction .14 ...For he came out of prison to become king, even though he was born poor in his kingdom 5.1 ...Guard your steps as you go to the house of God, and draw near to listen rather than to offer the sacrifice of fools; for they do not know they are doing evil .2 ...Do not be hasty in word or impulsive in thought to bring up a matter in the presence of God. For God is in heaven and you are on earth [limitless/limited]; therefor let your words be few .3 ...For the dream comes through much effort, and the voice of a fool through many words .8 ...If you see oppression of the poor and denial of justice and righteousness in a province, do not be shocked at the sight, for one official watches over another, and there are higher ones over them .9 ...After all, a king who cultivates the field is an advantage over the land 6.10 ...Whatever exists has already been named, and it is known what man is; for he cannot dispute with him who is stronger than he is 7.2 ...It better to go to a house of mourning than to go to a house of feasting, because that is the end of man, and the living takes it to heart .3 ...Sorrow is better than laughter, for when a face is sad a heart may be happy .4 ...The heart of the wise is in the house of mourning; while the heart of fools is in the house of pleasure .5 ...It is better to listen to the rebuke of a wise man than for one to listen to the song of fools .7 ...Oppression makes a wise man mad, and a bribe corrupts the heart .16 ...Do not be excessively righteous, and do not be overly wise. Why shall you ruin yourself? .17 ...Do not be excessively wicked, and do not be a fool. Why should you die before your time? .20 ...Indeed, there is not a righteous man on earth who continually does good and who never sins .21 ...Also, do not take seriously all the words that are spoken, lest you hear your servant curse you .22 ...For you also have realized that you likewise have many times cursed others .29 ...Behold, I have found only this, that God made men upright, but they have sought out many devices 8.1 ...Who is like the wise man who knows the interpretation of a matter? A man's wisdom illumines him and causes his stern face to beam .5 ...He who keeps a royal command experiences no trouble, for a wise heart knows the proper procedure and time. For there is a proper time and procedure for every delight, when a man's trouble is heavy upon him .11 ...Because the outcome against an evil deed is not executed quickly, therefore the hearts of men among them are given fully to evil .16 ...When I give my heart to know wisdom and to see the task which has been don on the earth, and I saw every work of God, I concluded that man cannot discover the work which has been done under the sun. Even though man should seek laboriously, he will not discover; and though the wise man should say, 'I know', he cannot discover 9.3 ...This is an evil in all that is done under the sun, that there is on fate for all men. Furthermore, the hearts of the sons of men are full of evil, and insanity is in their hearts throughout their lives. Afterwards they go to the dead .4 ...For whoever is joined with the living, there is hope; surely a live dog is better than a dead lion .12 ...Man does not know his time; like fix caught in a treacherous net, and birds trapped in a snare, so the sons of men are ensnared at an evil time when it suddenly falls on them .16 ...Wisdom is better than strength. But the wisdom of the poor man is despised and his words are not heeded .17 ...The words of the wise heard in quiet [silence] are better than the shouting of a ruler [teaching] among fools 10.4 ...If the ruler's temper rises against you, do not abandon your position, for composure allies great offences .8 ...He who digs a pit may fall into it, and a serpent may bit him who breaks through a wall .9 ...He who quarries stones may be hurt by them, and he who splits logs may be endangered by them .10 ...If the axe is dull and he does not sharpen its edges, then he must exert more strength. Wisdom has the advantage of giving success .11 ...If the serpent bites before being charmed, there is no profit for the charmer .12 ...Words from the mouth of the wise are gracious, while the lips of a fool consumes him; the beginning of his talking is folly, and the end of it is wicked madness 11.1 ...Cast your bread upon the waters, for you will find it after many days .4 ...He who watches the winds will not sow and he who looks at the clouds will not reap .8 ...Indeed, if a man should live many years, let him rejoice in them all, and let him remember the days of darkness, for they shall be many. Everything that is to come will be futility .9 ...Follow the impulses of your heart and the desires of you eyes. Yet know that God will bring you to judgment for all these things 12.11 ...The words of the wise men are like goads, and the masters of these collections are like well driven nails; they are given by on Shepherd .13 ...The conclusion, when all has been heard is: fear God and keep His commandments, because this applies to every person .14 ...Because God will bring every act to judgment, everything which is hidden, whether it is good or evil
THE BOOK OF WISDOM (that this book has been left out of most biblical anthologies must prove to be a constant source of spiritual deprivation for all too many, the below being drawn from the Jerusalem Bible)
1.1 ...Let honesty prompt you thinking about the Lord, seek him in simplicity of heart; he shows Himself to those who trust him .2 ...But selfish intentions divorce from God .4 ...No Wisdom will ever make its way into a crafty soul nor stay in a body that is in debt to sin; the holy spirit of instruction shuns deceit; it stands aloof from reckless purposes, is taken back when iniquity appears .6 ...Wisdom is a spirit; a friend of man, though she will not pardon the words of blasphemers, since God sees into the innermost parts of him, truly observes the heart, and listens to his tongue .10 ...There is a jealous ear that overhears everything, not so much as a murmur of complaint escapes it .11 ...Beware then of complaining about nothing, and keep your tongue from finding fault; since the most secret word will have repercussions, and a lying mouth deals death to the soul .13 ...Death was not Gods doing. He takes no pleasure in the extinction of the living 14 ...To be; for this he created all; the world's created things have health in them, in them no fatal poison can be found, and Hades holds no power on earth, for virtue is undying 2.23 ...God made man imperishable, he made him in the image of his own nature; it was the devil's envy that brought death into the world, as those who are his partners will discover 3.5 ...God has put them to the test [virtuous souls] and proved them worthy to be with him; he has tested them like gold in the furnace and accepted them as a holocaust .7 ...When it comes time for his visitation, they will shine out; as sparks fun through the stubble, so will they .8 ...They shall judge nations, rule over peoples, and the Lord will be their king forever .9 ...They who trust in him will understand the truth, those who are faithful will live with him in love; for grace and mercy await those he has chosen .15 ...The fruit of honest labors is glorious, and the root of understanding does not decay 5.15 ...The virtuous shall live forever...they shall receive the royal crown of splendor, the diadem of beauty from the hand of the Lord .17 ...For armor he will take his jealous love, he will aim creation to punish his enemies; he will put on justice as a breastplate; and for a helmet wear his undissembling judgment; he will take up invincible holiness for shield, he will forge a biting sword and his stern wrath, and the universe will march with him to fight the reckless (do the Protestants think St. Paul rejected this book? to their great loss) .19 ...holiness for a shield, he will forge a biting sword and of his stern wrath, and the universe will march with him to fight the reckless (the Annointed will fight?) .21 ...Bolts truly aimed, the shafts of lightninig will leap; from the clounds, as from a full drawn blow, fly to the work; the catapult will hurl hailstones charged with fury (100 lb hailstones?) .23 ...The waters of the sea will rage against them, the rivers engulf them without pity. The breath of the Lord (Annointed?) will blow upon them and winnow them like a hurricane. So lawlessness will bring the whole earth to ruin, and evil doing bring the thrones of the mighty down (bring the gods down?) 6.10 ...Those who observe holy things holily will be judged holy (receive a prophet as a prophet?), and, accepting instruction from them, will find their defence in them .14 ...Quick to anticipate those who desire her (Wisdom) she makes herself known to them. Watch for her early and you will have no trouble; you will find her sitting at her gates .16 ...Even to think about her is understanding fully grown; be on alert for her and anxiety will quickly flee you .17 ...She herself walks about looking for those who are worthy of her and graciously shows herself to them as they go; in every thought of theirs, coming to meet them .18 ...Of her, the most sure beginning is the desire for discipline, care for discipline means loving her, loving her means keeping her laws, obeying her laws guarantees incorruptibility, and that brings near to God; thus, desire for Wisdom leads to sovereignty (authority over evil, standing in truth?) .22 ...If then you delight in throne and sceptre, honor Wisdom, thus reign forever .23 ...Blighting Envy has nothing in common with Wisdom 7.5 ...No king (man?) has known any other beginning of existence (to be born?); for all there is one way only into life, as out of it .13 ...What I learned without self-interest (about what Wisdom taught?), I passed on without reserve. For she is an inexhaustible treasure to men, and those who aquire it, win God's friendship, commended as they are to him by the benefits of her teaching .15 ...he himself (the Annointed?) is the guide (instrument?) of Wisdom, since he directs the sages .22 ...Within her is a spirit intelligent, holy, unique, manifold, subtle, active, incisive, unsullied, lucid, invulnerable, benevolent, sharp, irresistible, beneficent, loving to man, steadfast, dependable, unpurturbed, almighty, all-surveying, penetrating, all intelligent, pure and most subtle spirits; for Wisdom is quick to move more than any motion; she is so pure, she pervades and permeates all things .25 ...She is a breath of the power of God, pure emanation of the glory of the Almighty; hence nothing impure can find a way into her .26 ...She is a reflecting of the eternal light, untarnished mirror of God's active power, image of his goodness .27 ...Although alone, she can do all; herself unchanging, she makes all things new. In each generation she passes into holy souls, she makes them friends of God and prophets; for God loves only [the] man who lives with Wisdom 8.1 ...Over Wisdom evil can never triumph. She deploys her strength from one end of the earth to the other, ordering all things for good .3 ...Her closeness to God lends lustre to her noble birth, since the Lord of all has loved her Yes, she is an intimate in the mysteries of God's knowledge, making choice of the works he is to do .7 ...If it is virtue you love, virtues are the fruit of your labors, since it is she who teaches temperance and prudence, justice and fortitude .8 ...She knows the past, she forecasts the future; she knows how to turn maxims, and solve riddles; she has foreknowledge of signs and wonders, of the unfolding of ages and the times (history) .17 ...Immortality is found in being kin to Wisdom, pure contentment in her friendship, inexhaustible riches in what she does, intelligence in the cultivation of her society, and renown in the fellowship of her conversation .19 ...I (king) received a good soul as my lot, or rather, being good, I had entered an undefiled body; but knowing I could not master Wisdom but by the gift of God- a mark itself of understanding, to know whose the bounty was- I turned to the Lord and entreated him, with all my heart I said: 9.1 ...Lord of Mercy, who made all things, and in your wisdom have fitted man to rule the creatures that have come from you, to govern the world in holiness and justice and honesty of soul to wield authority, grant me Wisdom, consort of your throne, and do not reject me from the numbers of your children .17 ..As for your intention, who could have learnt it, had you not granted Wisdom and sent your holy spirit from above? Thus have the paths of those on earth been straightened and men been taught what pleases you, and were saved, by Wisdom -ABIDE NO THOUGHT THAT WISDOM DOES NOT INSPIRE-
PSALMS (like everything worthy in the Wisdom Literature and Sacred Verse, the Psalms stand as Contemplations of the Sublime and Holy disposition of the Heart)
1.1 ...Blessed is he...whose delight is in the law of God (justice?), and in His love he meditates day and night .3 ...he will be like a tree frimly planted by streams of water, which yeilds it fruit in its seasons (12 fruit?), and its leaf does not wither (healing of the Nations?) .4 ...The wicked will not stand in the judgement, nor sinners (Idolators) in the assembly of the righteous; for the Lord knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked shall perish 2.1 ...Why are the nations in an uproar, and the peoples devising a vain thing?...they take this their stand and make counsel together against His Annointed (the Lord, spirit of grace) .4 ...He who is enthroned in heaven laughs, the Lord scoffs at them.
